20,000 Years of Wisdom. One Pulse.
Protecting Ancient Dagara Culture for Burkina Faso's Youth, Through Music, Ritual, and the Power of the Balafon.
SUPPORT ZANGALAThe Heartbeat
In the heart of West Africa, a sacred sound is calling. The Dagara people have danced their mythology into being for millennia, to the sound of the Balafon, drums, and songs. But modernity threatens to silence this heartbeat. So Zangala was founded as the bridge to sustain the vitality of Dagara culture. We are a global movement dedicated to ensuring that the music, the ritual, and the ancient wisdom of the Dagara are not just remembered, but reborn into countless generations of the future.
WHERE THE THREAD COMES ALIVE.
The FASIE festival is a ceremony and living celebration of Dagara culture.
Once a year, thousands of Burkinabè people gather to celebrate the performances of Dagara youth musicians, dancers, singers, storytellers, poets, and archers as they master their crafts.
In its 20+ years of existence, more than 10,000 Dagara youth have been given the opportunity to train with masters of their cultural traditions, to perform for thousands of spectators, and to be honored and celebrated for their Dagara heritage.
The FASIE festival is the flagship project of Zangala, and is the key to regenerating the ancient wisdom of the Dagara.
Discover the festivalA MOVEMENT THAT AGED INTO A FOUNDATION.
Zangala began as a circle of artists, elders, and diviners who refused to let the thread thin. What started as a quiet practice in the courtyards of Ouagadougou is now a foundation with a charter, a council, and a long horizon.
We work in three directions: heritage protection, contemporary cultural production, and spiritual stewardship. Each direction feeds the others. The mask carved today honors the mask buried yesterday. The diviner trained tomorrow speaks the language of both.
Sovereignty is not a slogan here. It is a daily practice — in how we govern ourselves, in whose stories we centre, in how we hold our money and our ceremonies. Burkina Faso first. Africa always. The world welcome.
